The Transition from V3 to V4 and What It Means for Farmers
We’re excited to share some important updates about the progress we’ve made over the past few months and what the future holds for the project. In this post, we’ll cover the key changes coming to minting, rewards, and the new V4 ecosystem.
The End of V3 Minting
Minting on V3 is coming to an end. Technically, it has already concluded—we’re currently paying from the treasury for capacity that remains available. Once V4 launches, we will fully stop rewarding capacity availability.
Expected timeline: We estimate this transition will occur around February 8th.
What Happens to Your V3 Capacity and Workloads?
V3 isn’t disappearing overnight. Here’s what you need to know:
- V3 and V4 will coexist during the initial phases of the transition
- Your existing workloads will continue to run—you’ll still be able to deploy and maintain them on V3 as you always have
- We recommend farmers migrate available capacity to the V4 network, especially if no workloads are currently running on it
- Migration is not mandatory at this stage
- V3 will eventually become free for farmers to deploy on their own infrastructure
Introducing the V4 Reward System
The V4 ecosystem brings a completely new approach to rewards and payments.
Spores: The New Currency
On V4, farmers will be rewarded in Spores—a new currency that also serves as the payment method for capacity.
The Marketplace Model
Deployment will work differently through a new marketplace system:
- Nodes are divided into slices—predefined packages of CPU power, RAM, and storage
- Farmers set their own prices within established minimum and maximum limits
- Users reserve slices to deploy their workloads
- Payment flows directly to farmers in Spores, minus a small fee that supports the foundation’s ongoing operations
What Can You Do With Spores?
Spores offer several use cases:
- Pay for capacity on the V4 network
- Purchase capacity from other farmers
- Convert to other digital currencies (USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum) in the near future
Coming Soon: AUR Stable Currency
We’re also launching AUR, a stable currency backed by gold. On the marketplace, you’ll be able to use AUR to:
- Pay for digital services hosted on the platform
- Rent slices for your deployments
What About Existing TFT Tokens?
TFT tokens will continue to exist, and we’re providing a clear path forward:
- One-way conversion available: You can convert TFT to Spores to transition into the V4 ecosystem
- This conversion is permanent—once converted, you cannot go back to TFT
- TFT remains functional: It will continue trading on the Stellar exchange, and you can still use it to purchase capacity on the V3 grid
- Long-term outlook: We’ll evaluate the token’s future based on conversion rates. If everyone converts, TFT will naturally phase out; if not, it will continue as it does today
Looking Ahead
The new marketplace model gives farmers more control over pricing while creating a more sustainable ecosystem for everyone involved.
Stay tuned for our next update, where we’ll be discussing Mycelium OS with our system architect, Yandere.
