Dear ThreeFold community,
As we enter 2026, we extend our sincere thanks to every farmer, builder, and community member who has continued to operate nodes, provide feedback, and support the grid. Your dedication has made the network stronger, more stable, and better positioned for real-world adoption than ever before.
This update provides an overview of the current state of the ThreeFold Grid (V3), progress on Project Mycelium (V4), how farming rewards are transitioning toward usage-based economics, and what to expect in the coming months.
The ThreeFold Grid Today (V3)
The ThreeFold Grid has remained fully operational on V3 throughout 2025, with mainnet releases V3.16, V3.17, and V3.18 successfully deployed.
These releases delivered measurable improvements in:
- Node stability and performance through continued Zero-OS enhancements
- Networking reliability via ongoing Mycelium development
- Tooling and usability improvements in QSFS and TF Connect
V3 will continue running in parallel as Project Mycelium rolls out. Existing nodes and workloads will not be disrupted.
Project Mycelium & Marketplace (V4)
Project Mycelium is the next step in making grid capacity usable through identity, micropayments, service exchange, and agent-based workloads. The goal is to move from infrastructure readiness toward practical usage.
Upcoming Milestones
- Feb 2026: Live previews and demos of the Mycelium Marketplace and core services
- Q1 2026: Broader community onboarding and increasing commercial utilization
Mycelium will be rolled out in phases. This allows stability issues to be addressed early and capacity to scale based on real demand.
Core Marketplace Capabilities

The Mycelium Marketplace is built around identity-based access and blockchain-backed accounting, with native support for:
- Micropayments using SPORE, TFT, and stablecoins
- Blockchain-backed settlement and transparent accounting
- A personal Mycelium ID Agent for every user (hosted on the grid)
- Marketplace-based capacity exchange using bids and pricing defined by service providers
Service providers already contributing capacity will receive priority access as the marketplace activates.
Services Available at Initial Release
As Mycelium comes online, the following capabilities will be introduced progressively:
- Identity management with reputation
- Acquiring SPORE (with digital currencies and TFT)
- Reserving names and namespaces
- Group and identity-based access control
- Node and farm reservations
- Hoster configuration with pricing and SLA definitions
- Overlay networking
- DNS registration
- VPN access (SOCKS5)
- LLM chat backend integrated into Project Mycelium
- MCP Broker enabling secure agent extensions
- AI Expert agent to assist users in navigating the ThreeFold ecosystem
Additional services will be activated as operational readiness and utilization grow.
Mycelium Cloud (V4) & Workloads
Key progress achieved in 2025 includes:
- Significant advancement of Mycelium OS (formerly ZOS4)
- Architectural refinements to support professional, production-grade workloads
- Early testing of Mycelium OS and marketplace components on the grid
A best-effort migration tool from V3 to V4 is under active development to assist node operators. Seamless automated migration is not guaranteed, but tools and guidance will be provided.
Importantly, nodes running Mycelium OS (V4) can deploy and use workloads immediately. Participation in the marketplace is optional, and usage is no longer restricted by earlier bootstrap models.
Becoming a Service Provider on Project Mycelium
Project Mycelium supports different participation paths, depending on scale and intent.
Option A: Professional Service Providers (20+ Nodes)
This option is designed for established providers and farmers with 20 or more nodes who want to offer commercial-grade capacity.
If this applies to you, contact the ThreeFold team. We will work with you directly to get you operational on the Mycelium Marketplace.
Support includes:
- Onboarding onto Mycelium OS
- Guidance on intelligent power management to reduce energy usage
- Help define pricing and service offerings for marketplace bids
- Assistance in setting up service-level agreements (SLAs)
- Operational support focused on delivering reliable, production-ready capacity
Option B: Individual and Small-Scale Farmers
This option is intended for smaller farmers or individual node operators who are motivated to continue contributing to the network.
Under this model:
- Your nodes will primarily support agentic workloads and experimental services
- Project Mycelium will purchase capacity from participating nodes
- This capacity will be made available to the community for testing and development
By participating, you:
- Build reputation within the Mycelium ecosystem
- Gain hands-on experience with agent-based workloads
- Position yourself as a trusted contributor as the network matures
TFT, SPORE & Rewards
For details, check Mycelium Economics Documentation
SPORE is the native unit of exchange within Project Mycelium:
- 1 TFT = 10 SPORE
- 1 SPORE = 0.01 USD (Phase 1 fixed pricing)
- Marketplace exits use a Dutch auction mechanism to maintain orderly liquidity
Farmer earnings will be derived from real usage through the marketplace, providing predictable economics based on demand rather than speculative token price fluctuations.
Commercial Utilization & Partnerships
As we move into 2026, utilization becomes the central focus of the ThreeFold ecosystem. Several important developments are now converging across technology, partnerships, and ecosystem growth.
Agent-based and agentic workloads have advanced significantly. These capabilities are being actively developed and refined in collaboration with early commercial adopters and will be demonstrated in the near future as part of Project Mycelium.
In parallel, work continues on a best-effort migration tool to support the transition from the ThreeFold Grid (V3) to the Mycelium Cloud (V4), ensuring existing operators are supported as the ecosystem evolves.
ThreeFold is working on a cooperative initiative dedicated to delivering a sovereign, secure, agentic cloud that respects people and the planet. This initiative includes formal collaboration with the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), representing a network of cooperatives with a combined reach of over one billion people, as well as the formation of a dedicated policy and global rollout team to support international adoption.
Community Call
On January 8, we held a community call where we shared updates on the current state of the ThreeFold Grid, progress on Project Mycelium, and the transition toward usage-driven rewards through the Mycelium Marketplace.
During the session, we also discussed practical topics such as the V3–V4 transition, marketplace mechanics, early workload focus (including agent-based services), and what farmers and service providers can expect as utilization ramps up in early 2026.
Based on the positive engagement and feedback from this call, we plan to organize more regular community calls and update sessions in 2026, with a focus on clarity, progress updates, and open Q&A. Some of these sessions will include live demos and deeper dives into specific use cases.
We thank everyone who participated and appreciate the thoughtful questions and continued commitment to the ThreeFold vision.
Looking Forward
We want to thank everyone who has stayed involved, contributed, tested, hosted, and believed in the vision. We wish our entire community a strong, healthy, and meaningful 2026.
We’re excited to build it together.
