Understanding the Migration Hub: How to Move Your Nodes to Project Mycelium

Hi ThreeFold community,

With the launch of Project Mycelium and the March 31 deadline approaching fast, I wanted to write up a clear, high-level explanation of what the Migration Hub is, how it works, and what you need to know before you get started. Whether you’re a long-time farmer or just catching up, this post should give you the full picture.

What is the Migration Hub?

The Migration Hub at migrate.projectmycelium.com is the official portal for ThreeFold farmers to move their existing nodes from ThreeFold Grid (v3) to Project Mycelium. It is not just a tool; it’s also a learning resource. The site includes explanations of the new economic model, token economics, hardware requirements, an ROI calculator, and a full FAQ.

Why Migrate?

ThreeFold Grid (v3) stays operational, but minting has stopped. Project Mycelium is the next chapter: a sovereign cloud and AI platform built by the same team, with a redesigned economic model focused on real-world utilization. Migrating is the path to keeping your rewards going.

What Does “Migration” Actually Mean Right Now?

This is an important point that confuses many people: migrating today is a registration step, not a hardware change.

Your node continues running on v3 exactly as before. Nothing changes on the hardware side yet. What you’re doing is registering your node on the Mycelium Ledger, the new blockchain, so that you’re in the system and eligible for rewards. When Mycelium OS is ready, there will be advance notice before the official OS switchover.

The Three Steps

The process on the Migration Hub takes three steps, completable in one sitting:

  1. Register your Mycelium Ledger identity. Claim your wallet and namespace identity on the new network.
  2. Move your nodes. Register your existing ThreeFold Grid nodes on the Mycelium Ledger.
  3. (Optional) Buy SPORE with TFT. ThreeFold community members have early access to SPORE at a preferential rate of 10 SPORE per 1 TFT, available by agreement until June 30, 2026. This is a one-way, irreversible exchange, so consider your own situation carefully before participating.

What You Earn

Once migrated, your nodes begin accruing baseline bid tier SPORE rewards — a guaranteed income floor provided by the protocol even before the full marketplace launches.

Farmers who complete migration by March 31, 2026 earn these rewards retroactively from January 1, 2026. Nodes migrated after the deadline will not be eligible for the retroactive period. You must also keep your nodes online until the marketplace is fully operational to receive your rewards. Going offline before that point means losing the rewards you’ve accrued.

When the marketplace goes live, the revenue split will be:

  • 80% to the farmer (paid in SPORE)
  • 10% permanently burned (deflationary mechanism)
  • 10% to the protocol fund for development

The New Economic Model: From Proof-of-Capacity to Utilization Marketplace

This is the biggest conceptual shift. On ThreeFold Grid, farmers earned simply by connecting hardware and proving capacity (proof-of-capacity). On Project Mycelium, farmers earn when their capacity is actively rented.

Your node’s resources are divided into slices. Each slice is defined as an 8 GB RAM unit, with CPU and storage allocated proportionally. You list your slices on the marketplace, set your own pricing within protocol-defined ranges of roughly $1.20 to $12.00/month per slice, and earn when customers rent them.

The bid tier system acts as a safety net: even if no one rents your capacity, the protocol commits to purchasing at a minimum baseline rate. It’s a floor, not a profit guarantee, and your operating costs still apply.

Hardware Requirements

Your existing hardware is likely compatible. Minimum requirements are:

  • 6 CPU cores
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 1 TB SSD
  • 10 Mbps network

Full details are on the Hardware Requirements page.

Token Notes (SPORE and TFT)

  • SPORE is the native currency of Project Mycelium. It is not a bridge or conversion of TFT; it’s a new token.
  • TFT continues to exist independently as a separate token.
  • SPORE cannot be sold through the protocol until July 1, 2026, when the Dutch auction mechanism activates.
  • The fixed early-access price is $0.01 per SPORE until June 30, 2026; after that, the price floats.
  • Max supply is 10 billion SPORE, with a deflationary burn mechanism built in.

Timeline Summary

Milestone Date
Retroactive rewards begin January 1, 2026
Migration deadline for retroactive eligibility March 31, 2026
TFT to SPORE preferential rate ends June 30, 2026
SPORE Dutch auction + selling enabled July 1, 2026
Mycelium OS and marketplace target Q1/Q2 2026

Get Started

Head to migrate.projectmycelium.com to register, migrate your nodes, and explore the ROI calculator and FAQ. Active ThreeFold farmers are prioritized for early access.

Minting on ThreeFold Grid has stopped, so staying on v3 without migrating means your nodes only earn from deployment and utilization rewards. If you have already registered, remember that keeping your nodes online until the marketplace is fully operational is required to receive your accrued SPORE rewards. The hardware switchover to Mycelium OS will come later with advance notice, so for now keeping your v3 node running is all that’s needed.

Over the coming days I’ll be posting deep dives on each of these topics, starting with the new economic model. Stay tuned, and feel free to share your migration experience in the comments!
