Hi ThreeFold community,
Last week we held our end of summer community call. No slides, no rehearsal, just live demos of what has been built over the past few months. Here is the short version for anyone who could not join.
The main takeaway
It is one stack, not a collection of separate projects. Four layers:
- Bare metal. A hardware management layer we did not have in version 3. Power, boot, OS install and network visibility, remotely and largely self healing. This was our biggest source of pain before. We ran it live on real machines during the call.
- Capacity. Slices, GPUs, storage, and private networking that can put bare metal, slices, GPUs and even your laptop on the same network.
- Marketplace. Where capacity becomes something you can buy or sell, with a simple view for most people and an advanced view for the rest. What is live today runs against the machines we are actively testing, so part of the walkthrough used mock data. The pre-configured AI services are not ready yet.
- Hero. Our own alternative to ChatGPT, with a full desktop behind the chat window: office suite, slides, whiteboards, development environment, all AI driven, all running on the grid. During the call it took a research request and came back with a document, a PDF and a published website.
The reason it has been quiet is that most of our summer went into commercial work. Several apps were built on Hero for real customers, and a first large commercial partner is now funding a significant part of development. This helps all our projects and allows us to go further.
This is also the context for the move from TFT to Spore. Many of you have not converted yet, and that is fair enough: a new token is hard to judge in the abstract. What we showed on this call is what it is attached to, which is a working stack with paying customers on it rather than a promise. On the practical side: we are extending the conversion deadline to the end of the year. Too few people have moved so far, and we do not want anyone who simply missed the announcement to lose out. We will also take the migration properly in a session of its own.
What to expect next
-
Hero access for early adopters should open up in the coming weeks and we will gather feedback to keep improving the platform.
-
The marketplace opens to farmers and community providers after our commercial partner. It is the same stack, so we hope to follow quickly, though it also depends on the cooperative being in place.
-
The cooperative is the piece everything else waits on. We are pushing hard to have it registered and open by the end of September, and as soon as we have a firm date we will reopen the conversation with the founding members.
-
A community app for Project Mycelium is next on the build list, adapted from the app we made for the CM50 leaders network. One place for news, documents, who is involved and where things stand.
-
The token transition deserves more than five minutes at the end of a demo call, so we will run a session on it separately and come back to you with the details. If you still hold TFT, you now have until the end of the year to convert.
And if you want to run your own hardware cluster, that is possible today. We will tell you exactly what to buy and help you get it up. Just reach out and we can get a few of you going.
Thank you to everyone who has joined the community call, the recording link is on our Telegram News channel. We were quiet over the summer and we decided to build rather than announce, which is not always comfortable from the outside, and we know it. From here we want these calls to be regular and informal, so tell us what you want to see next time and if you have any more questions, the team will answer them.
