Recapping August 29 Community Call (Commercialization)

After sharing a written roundup last week, on Friday we hosted a call with the community to discuss our latest developments, where we stand today, what’s launching next, and how the ecosystem is evolving. The focus was on the marketplace, the role of Kubernetes, the future direction around AI agents, tokens ($TFT and $INCA), positioning, and vision – with lots of time for discussion and feedback.

Here’s a recap for those who were not able to make it:

Hosted on the Grid

  • We spun on an instance of Jitsi Meet on the grid in minutes using the ThreeFold Dashboard and hosted the call there
  • Private, secure, and powered by decentralized infrastructure
  • Anybody can do it. Visit dashboard.grid.tf → Deploy → Labs → Jitsi

The Latest with the Marketplace

  • The marketplace is expected to have a soft launch by the end of the month
  • This is a major milestone after years building; a first step in commercialization; a simple entry point where people can:
    • Buy/sell resources (nodes, services, applications)
    • Use Cloud Credits (stable internal currency)
    • Track revenue flows via transparent dashboards
  • Creates a foundation for adoption, supporting farmers (hosters) and service providers

“The marketplace is the pivot – from minting to revenue, from building to commercialization.”

Kubernetes on the Grid

  • A new Kubernetes deployment tool called KubeCloud was demoed – a simple “one-click-deploy” experience
  • Enables redundancy, scaling, and easy resource expansion
  • Both full and partial node usage supported (with a discount for full nodes)

“Kubernetes will be one of the main ways people use the grid – we’ve made it as simple as ‘click–click–deploy.’”

AI Agents & Agentic Cloud

  • AI Agents are the next big focus, this is where the world is going and what we have been predicting for years (Digital Twin, HERO)
  • The role of agents in our ecosystem will be comparable to the role of wallets in Web3, an indispensable user layer
  • Agents will help people interact with the grid and services in a simpler way
    • Will be the main interface for users
    • Bring autonomy, memory, and personal data control
  • Future: Positioning the ecosystem as the default decentralized platform for AI agents and apps
    • First demos are expected in the upcoming weeks

"AI agents are the biggest workload possible to fill the cloud. That’s our chance to become the default decentralized standard.”

Token Supply & Revenue Model

  • Minting is ending soon (early October)
    • Token supply (TFT) capped at 1 billion
    • We pivot from minting to revenue
  • Revenue will come through the marketplace and services built on it (80% to node providers, 20% to foundation/cooperative)
    • Cloud credits for stability and usability
    • Strategic projects (e.g. AI agents, partnerships)

“At the end, we all want to be a serious currency — and I still believe we have a very good shot.”

Transparency & Community

  • Marketplace will show transparent dashboards of all revenue flows
  • Long-term plan is still for a cooperative structure
    • Open governance, each member has a vote
    • Fully open budget and decision-making
  • Committing to more frequent updates as new milestones go live

“Every member will be part of the cooperative — one vote, full transparency.”

Applications & Community Requests

  • Messenger app (encrypted, decentralized) requested strongly by the community
    • Team acknowledged it’s feasible and already started work on a simple chat / messenger app for Mycelium; will update as progress is made
  • Other features / requests:
    • Email services (NextCloud integration, Google/Microsoft alternatives)
    • Snapshots, backups, and stronger feature parity with hyperscalers
    • Clearer communication channels for non-technical users to contribute & give feedback

“Community feedback is shaping our roadmap – we hear you.”

Next Steps & Timing

  • Stay tuned for Marketplace & KubeCloud
  • AI agent demos and roll-outs are also coming
  • Another call within ± 1 month with more updates
  • Marketing efforts will scale once certain commercial milestones are live

As you can see, the ThreeFold ecosystem is shifting from building to launching (well, we’ll always be building). The marketplace will be a first step and proof point, bringing transparency, revenue, and community participation. The Kubernetes solution is becoming usable. Not discussed here, but Mycelium and Quantum Safe Storage have been improved significantly. And agentic workloads are coming as well.

Thanks and stay tuned for more developments.

Hi Sam! I hope you are well. Thanks for the information. It’s very interesting.
Could you please provide more information about the tokens? I’ve just read that the total TFT cap has been lowered to 1 billion. As far as I know, the previous total was 4 billion. Am I right? What about INCA? Could you provide more information about its tokenomics?

Hi there, thanks for reaching out!

Regarding TFT, the plan for a while now has been to stop minting at 1B and reach 4B with INCA. I don’t personally know the latest as far as INCA tokenomics but here is some more info on INCA from the call:

  • Last year’s fundraising didn’t work out; we raised money but not as much as we hoped
  • Timing was also bad (January to July was a tough fundraising window)
  • Liquidity issues with TFT hurt
  • Working with a credible team that has previously taken two projects to “a couple of billion,” helping with narrative, tokenomics, simulations, and investor packaging
  • Framed around decentralized AI agents and workloads (where ThreeFold is the low-level infrastructure), which is a narrative investors understand

More will be shared as Kristof and the team work through their next steps!

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have some TFT. Should I swap them into INCA? Is INCA a new token instead of TFT?

INCA hasn’t been launched yet, so just holding the TFT is fine for now. TFT are still the only way to rent capacity on the ThreeFold Grid.
