Let us first start by saying that we are extremely proud of where we have gotten to and motivated for where we are going. Together!
2023 was a challenging year, but it was also very productive. While it wasn’t always easy, we remained transparent. We remained focused. We built. We came together. We solved problems. And we set the stage for the realization of something bigger yet to come – a more reliable, more utilized grid and a healthy, flourishing ecosystem based on collaboration, commercialization, and a cooperative model. For it all, we are grateful. For it all, we are stronger!
From Grid 3.8 to Grid 3.13
The team continued to make big strides on the grid technology side this year. GPU support was added to the grid. Core grid components were improved. In recent months, the focus has been primarily on solving the issues we felt were preventing our project from commercialization and creating a much improved user interface / experience.
OurWorld Venture Creator
The OurWorld Venture Creator has been established. It features ThreeFold, the OurWorld Digital Free Zone (more below), OurPhone, and Sikana. The Venture Creator has as its main goal to enable self sovereignty for all people, with ThreeFold serving as the sovereign digital backbone for each of the established ventures.
Manual & Documentation Improvements
The manual saw huge improvements this year. Farmers, developers, and system administrators have all they need to get started with ThreeFold. Thanks to those on the team and in the community who helped to elevate these resources this year.
Farmerbot / Power Management Feature
A power management feature was developed and added to the grid this year, in an effort to lower the energy consumption of the grid as a whole, and for farmers individually. The feature was tested by a sizable part of our farming community and together we are improving it.
On the Ground in Tanzania
The team held two events in Zanzibar this year and also attended the ICT Tanzania Conference, where Kristof was a keynote speaker. At our first event, President Dr. Hussein Mwinyi announced the OurWorld Digital Free Zone. Out of our second event came Dunia Yetu, a project in collaboration with a Tanzanian developer group, and the launch of the first ThreeFold Nodes in Tanzania. We are looking forward to taking the next steps in 2024.
ThreeFold Goes Commercial
Over the course of the year we had various discussions with the community around going commercial. Some technical limitations were holding us back, but with the support of the community and testers, the team has been hard at work to ensure we are ready for this next phase of commercialization and utilization. Our main upcoming focuses are on the 4th generation grid, the ThreeFold Cooperative, farming pools, and commercial offerings on top. You can read all about the latest here.
Please be reminded we are looking for applicants for the ThreeFold Guardian Program and for some people interested in supporting the setup of the ThreeFold Cooperative (some experience here is preferred but not necessary).
What’s Next for ThreeFold
This year we grew stronger. And for it, we believe that 2024 will be a year of great realization. We as a team will do all that we can to bring ThreeFold to the next level and we look forward to working together with you to realize our collective potential!
