Let's share our farming setup

What is the CPU model?

Spec Dell Precision 5810 Tower, E5-1620 3.50GHz, 32GB RAM, 256GB SSD as purchased now with 2 x 2tb ssd and 4tb hdd

Is ā€œLogical Processorsā€ enabled?

No option worded to that effect. I have upgraded bios from A19 to A31 this morning and tried various bios switches and still reports only as 4

can you give a screenshot from you BIOS CPU-options?

Guys, I had a lightbulb moment and booted with grml to see what htop showed and then i went into /proc. It turns out the cpu is not what was advertised! Its not a E5-1620 @ 3.5 but an E5-1603 @ 2.8 I have contacted seller to resolve.

Good thing you checked! Hope the seller sends you 8threads cpu

Little update.

Found a nice deal (180ā‚¬) on an Intel server with the following specs:

  • 2x Intel Xeon E5-2640 (12/24vCPU);
  • 128 GB RAM;
Added a 2TB Sabrent SSD for around 200ā‚¬, so a total of ~400ā‚¬ for everything.
Farming ~1052 TFT/month, in @Mik terms, a ratio of around 0,38ā‚¬ per TFT.

Wow that really is an amazing ratio. Hard to beat!
The E5-2640 has 6323 passmark for 6 cores so you even have the 1000+ passmark per core.

What is the Inter server model exactly?

Looks like a very good 3node to get in European countries.

Yeah, it really was an amazing deal !!!

Canā€™t really answer that question, everything I know is what says in this sticker:

1u network rack depth node build, kind of a alpha with lower end hardware to test the cooling strategy, this node is quieter then my laptop.

Specs are 8 vcpu, 32gb ram, 1tb hdd

Specifics are Xeon 1230v3, 32gb pc3-12800 UDimm ecc ram, 1tb nvme ssd. Has an onboard ten gig nic, this one actually has six of them, itā€™s my router wonā€™t be deployed as a node, but another just like it with the dual 10gigabit version motherboard image image image

Hello, Iā€™m about to buy one of those X3850 X5. As you posted the NIC must be replaced. I assume this is a ZOS compatibilty issue. Is there a particular NIC you could recommend? Thanks

Hey @nooba,

what a beast!! Looks like you end up with 4x CPUs each with 20 threads?

Iā€™m not sure that NIC must really be replaced. The X3850 comes with Broadcom 5709C controller. Some farmers seem to have problems with those but I guess thatā€™s a firmware thing. You should give it a another try.

If you indeed canā€™t make it work. I can confirm the following NICs working fine with ZOS.

  • BRCM GbE 4P 5720-t
  • IntelĀ® GbE 4P I350-t
  • IntelĀ® 2P X520/2P I350

Here is a list of the supported NICs on the X3850 X5

At least the above mentioned intel cards are supported.

Soā€¦ if you are from US Nelson can help you out.
If you are from Europeā€¦ I can help you.

Hi Nooba,

I have had problems with it of course but it was with ZOS V1 so it could be that they have fixed that in the meantime.

I used default 1GBs intel NICs with PXE each about 30 euro

these times its more expansive ā€¦ at about 40 euro

Hey guys thank for your help. Actually Iā€™m from Portugal.

Thanks for the info. The CPUs are Xeon E7-4860 20 vCPUs/each for a total of 80 V/cores. Iā€™ll try to setup the server with the original controller, if I run into problems I will look into this cards.
Thanks again.
