Upgrading server after initial registration (Resolved)

I’ve seen where upon a servers first registration, TFT rewards are calculated at a predetermined rate (0.08). Does this mean total rewards are set in stone and adding storage or ram won’t have any effective increase of rewards? Assuming per the farming calculator, the upgrades are beneficial to increased rewards.

Good question and it is not the most obvious thing to know at first.

The rewards are not set in stone, the way you phrased it. If you upgrade the 3node, you will farm more tokens as shown by the simulator.

Note that the rewards are given based on the lowest specs of the 3node per minting cycle.
So it’s better to upgrade near the end of the month as the farming rewards for the month will be based on the 3node before upgrades (lowest specs of the current minting cycle). Then, at the next minting cycle, the updates will be taken into consideration and you will farm more TFT.

The simulator is precise enough to make some good predictions of TFT farmed.

Additional information:

Note that if you register a 3node today, you will have the same TFT rewards per month for 60 months, even if the 8 cents go to, say, 16 cents in the future (this will be decided by the Threefold DAO). So it’s a good thing to bring 3nodes to the TF Grid in early stage of the TFT existence. A given 3node that would be registered today will make a number X of TFT per month, and if the registration price goes to 16 cents, the same 3node would make half the number of TFT (X / 2). So putting 3nodes early on the TF Grid is good if you are confident that TF will grow.

I hope this helps!

Mik - Great information and additional details! The minting cycle delay makes sense and no concerns there. Thank you!
