Hardware compatibility database

Hello farmers,

With the 0-OS team we have started to gather a compatibility list for all the hardware we encounter.

If you want to contribute and help us, please let us know what type of server you are using and what has been your experience with it.

The process to add a server to the list is the following:

  1. Check if your server model is not already present in the list at https://github.com/threefoldtech/zos/blob/master/docs/compatibility/readme.md
  2. If it is not, open a new issue at https://github.com/threefoldtech/zos/issues/new and reuse the template provided at the end of this thread.
  3. Fill the template with your information
  4. Title the issue Compatibility update request: <server mode>
  5. Submit the issue

A team member will then process the issue and add your server to the list.

Here is the issue template to use:

## Hardware compatibility document update request

- Vendor : (server vendor)
- Model name : (sever model)
- Support quality (check one):
   - [ ] âś… fully supported
   - [ ] ⚠️ supported with some tweaking
   - [ ] 🛑 not supported
- Workarounds: (write down any special step you had to take to make it work)
- Remarks: (any extra remark worth mentioning)

Example of an valid issue:

Title: Compatibility update request: SYS-5038ML-H8TRF

- Vendor : Supermicro
- Model name : SYS-5038ML-H8TRF
- Support quality (check one):
   - [ ] âś… fully supported
   - [x] ⚠️ supported with some tweaking
   - [ ] 🛑 not supported
- Workarounds: raid controller needed to be put in JBOD mode
- Remarks:

Thanks all for you help

Hey Christophe! i really apprechiate that thread!

One further thought of me, i think it would help alot, if the community have a rubric, where we can share the Hardware and Servers/Computers that is already successful tested. so it can then too added tgo the list or to a seperate list “successful tested Hardware”

Thanks!

Thanks, glad you like it.

if the community have a rubric, where we can share the Hardware and Servers/Computers that is already successful tested.

This is actually is the goal of the document we created. Do you mean you would like to be able to have a more detail hardware list like disk, memory, CPU, mother boards ? Right now I kept it relatively simple.

I understood that only non supported Hardware should be reported there.
With the Titel: "Compatibility update request: "

so where do i share successful tested hardware? Also on github as issue?

We want to get ALL the hardware encountered yes. Not only the one that doesn’t work.
Read again the first post and the issue template.

aaah am stupid xD you are right hahaha xD i read it bad…
